Mt. Airy Learning Tree is a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to building community by providing shared learning opportunities throughout Mt. Airy and the surrounding area. Founded in 1981, MALT offers over 800 affordable community-based courses each year. In the spirit of “neighbors teaching neighbors,” we bring together people from diverse background to learn, share, have fun and connect.

After a brief hiatus as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, MALT is seeking to re-open its doors in May to begin preparing for a fall term.  Now that things are starting to open up again, MALT is planning a hybrid fall term (holding classes both in-person and online). MALT is hiring in two of its staff positions: Executive Director and Program Director.  Job descriptions are listed below.

MT AIRY LEARNING TREE SEEKS NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The Board of Directors is seeking an Executive Director to lead Mt. Airy Learning Tree (MALT) into its next chapter with a focus on long-term growth and sustainability.

The Executive Director is responsible for all facets of MALT operations. The ED works with the MALT Board to develop a vision for the organization, and is responsible for implementing this vision with the organization’s staff. The ED creates an annual budget, conducts fundraising, and does the organizational accounting/ bookkeeping in collaboration with the Board Treasurer. The ED works with the staff to develop a robust and well balanced course catalog, create new course offerings, and oversee all course related activities.  The ED develops special projects, events and initiatives including associated sponsorships. The ED manages growth, oversees quality control and improvement processes, provides fiscal oversight and management,  supervises the MALT staff, and manages the MALT office building, among other responsibilities. 

The ideal candidate will work well in a collaborative atmosphere, have previous leadership experience, and have a demonstrated commitment to community, lifelong learning, and building relationships. MALT values diversity, sustainability, community, and collaboration. We are seeking someone who shares these core values to bring vision and energy to this beloved local organization.

This is a part-time (30 hours/week) salaried position.

Salary: $40,000 per year, no benefits.

MT. AIRY LEARNING TREE SEEKS NEW PROGRAM DIRECTOR

The Program Director (PD) is an integral member of our small staff team. The PD is the primary liaison with all MALT instructors, aiding with course development and making sure teachers have what they need to start and run their classes. The PD is also the staff contact for our course locations throughout the term.  The PD assists with the creation of the course catalog, and helps with the planning and execution of special events. The PD answers the phone in the MALT office and helps register students for courses, and assists with problem-solving as issues arise. The Program Director is supervised by the Executive Director.

This is a part-time (25-30 hours/week) salaried position. The ideal candidate will work well in a collaborative atmosphere, be computer savvy, and have a demonstrated commitment to community, lifelong learning, and building relationships. MALT values diversity, sustainability, community, and collaboration. We are seeking someone who shares these core values to bring vision and energy to this beloved local organization.

Salary is ~$25,000, commensurate with experience, no benefits.
